YATB ONLINE SPACE

In light of current events, Yoga at the Barn feels a responsibility to temporarily put a hold on in-studio classes. The YATB community is very special, we care a lot about the people who join here to practice together.  We believe deeply in creating connection - to ourselves, our practice and each other more deeply. Moving to virtual teaching at this time feels like the most responsible way to keep this community connected and healthy throughout the coming weeks.

We would like to introduce you to the YATB ONLINE SPACE. An accessible and welcoming platform, allowing students to continue to interact with teachers and each other amidst all that is going on with COVID-19. We may be contained, but let’s ensure, as a community, that we are not isolated! Meeting LIVE four times a week, students can interact via video (if they wish), continuing to share practice together even if it is virtual.

YATB prides itself in being an in-person community, a place we can come together; see each other, hear each other and practise with each other.  Our YATB ONLINE SPACE is temporary and, while we are sure it will serve us well over the following weeks, we strongly believe the community and connections that are so integral to YATB are best enjoyed at the barn!  We cannot wait to welcome you back into the YATB barn space as soon as we can.

If you book on to one of our LIVE ONLINE classes, you will receive a link via email to join the class. You will also receive directions on how to use ZOOM, which is the platform we will be meeting on for the classes. In the meantime, this short clip gives a really good overview of how you join a ZOOM meeting: https://www.youtube.com/embed/vFhAEoCF7jg?rel=0&autoplay=1&cc_load_policy=1

If you were unable to make the class live online or wish to reflect on or revisit any aspects of the class, a recording of it will be available from 8am the following day for 48 hours.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email us at info@yatb.co.uk

Pregnancy Yoga with Georgie Barnes

In this pregnancy yoga class you can expect to be guided through a safe and secure practice in a space that allows women to simply take stock, relax and focus on the absolutely amazing thing that your body is doing - it's often the only time we get!

We will spend time finding much needed space in both mind and body, build strength, connection, calm and use breathwork to prepare for labour as well.

This class will be taught by Georgie Barnes, Georgie has practised yoga for over 14 years after initially seeking something to ease persistent back pain, and it absolutely worked! Georgie was hooked on the physical ease a regular yoga practice gave her along with both the buzz and calm she felt from each class.

In 2010 Georgie completed her 200hr teacher training with Allie Hill at Yoga Haven and more recently her Pregnancy Teacher Training with CamYoga in Cambridge.

Georgie is now a busy mum to three young children and is often found traipsing around Bourn with children and labrador in tow. She has a strong interest in the growing arena of women's health during and after pregnancy and labour.

It is recommended that people are a minimum of 12 weeks pregnant to join these classes.

Gentle Yoga for CFS/ME/Adrenal Fatigue or those experiencing burnout

This NEW monthly offering is a unique gentle yoga and movement class for people who are living with CFS/ME/Adrenal Fatigue or are feeling overwhelmed or experiencing burnout.

This class will include gentle yoga, movement, breath practice and restorative shapes to support building body literacy (awareness).

This is not a class for curing symptoms, but rather for enquiring and building awareness about how the body is feeling.  When we notice how our bodies are feeling (gaining a great sense of embodiment) we can learn ways to better support ourselves during times of fatigue and stress.

This is also a space for people who are interested to meet others with similar experiences, building the possibility of support, resource-building and networking.

Accessible for every body, variations will be provided (so all students might be doing different things at similar times, some may stay seated or laying down for the whole practice, where others may opt for more movement).  A welcoming class environment. For more information or to find out if this is the right class for you, please email us: info@yatb.co.uk

Postnatal Pilates with Melanie Thompson

As Pilates focuses on abdominal work, it is particularly good for strengthening the weakened core and the pelvic floor areas. Often there is little or no sensation in this area due to damaged nerves and muscular stretching post delivery. This is something we will work on. You may have been doing pelvic floor exercises prior to the birth and you should aim to continue. We will also concentrate on general arm, shoulder and leg strengthening as lifting and carrying baby becomes increasingly challenging as they gain weight.

Mothers are welcome to bring babies to the class. If they become agitated or need changing, there is a café with changing facilities opposite the barn. Mats and equipment will be provided, but you may wish to bring your own cushion or blanket for support and padding.

The class will be aimed at mothers from 6 weeks – 2 years postnatal. (Yes, it can take up to that long for some to regain your former fitness level.)

You should wait until you have had your 6-8 week check-up and have been given the all clear by your GP. Any concerns, please ask your doctor. It is not advisable to exercise prior to 6 weeks as you may be prone to injury due to the amount of relaxin still present in the body. If you have had a caesarean section, you should not exercise until your scar has fully healed and it may take longer to work up to abdominal exercise.

Prior to attending the class, you will be required to fill in a client enrolment form so that I can be advised of any issues we can work on or work around.

Please don't hesitate to contact Melanie on 07961 030 836 or at meljthompson@aol.com if you have any questions

A bit about Melanie:

“After training as a graphic designer and then moving into illustrated book production, I have left the publishing world after 25 years to concentrate on Pilates and yoga. My qualification is in Level 3 advanced mat Pilates with the FutureFit School of Pilates, including orthopaedic, antenatal and postnatal conditions. I have also undertaken courses and workshops with Body Control, Stott and HFE Pilates.

I have been practising Pilates for over twenty years, having started postnatally. More recently it has helped me tremendously having suffered from lower back pain due to driving, commuting and sitting at a desk all day. As a runner, it helps reduce injury through strengthening muscles and to recover from post-run niggles. My greatest satisfaction is in seeing people improve in fitness and strength and being able to alleviate pain and discomfort.

As well as teaching for general fitness and back health, I enjoy working with ante and postnatal conditions. I currently work with an osteopath who refers clients with specific issues to me.

I love that Pilates can be tailored to suit just about anybody, whether you have suffered due to injury and need to start slowly, or want more of a challenge. I like to extend my enthusiasm for it to others to experience the benefits as I have.

I teach Pilates in Cambridge and the surrounding villages. I also love yoga and am currently teacher training towards my 500 hours qualification with Camyoga. I am a mother to three practically grown up daughters and live in Caldecote with my husband, a cat and a loony Weimaraner.

Pilates and yoga are my sanctuary.”
